    Dear Students! Welcome to the Course "Spiritual Gifts". We hope and pray you will have a wonderful experience studying with us and complete this course successfully!

    The very first thing we expect you to do is to follow our weekly schedule. We strongly encourage you to complete your lessons within the suggested time frame, which will require maintaining the pace outlined in your course materials. It is recommended that you take a genuine effort in regular forum participation. This allows an opportunity to learn from other students and enrich their learning experience by your views, ideas and discoveries, as you navigate through the course together.

      Before you get to the lessons, it is paramount that you review the course description and the timetable. They provide important information about the topics and readings, the required assignments and their purpose, etc.

      Before the foundation of the world God loved you even before He made you. And when He made you He knew that you would have some special assignment and purpose to accomplish. And He equipped you with everything you need to do it.  

      This week Steve Lake is going to:

      • help you discover how your spiritual gift is connected with your purpose in life;

      • provide a brief overview of twenty-one spiritual gifts listed in the Scripture;

      • talk about  three key elements which will help you notice your gifts;

      • explain how God has placed in your heart a certain audience or social issue where you can make a difference;

      • explore John 16:7 and speak about  the ministry of the  Holy Spirit.

    • The Basics of Spiritual Gifts

      Paul didn't want the Corinthian church to be ignorant about spiritual gifts. Unfortunately, according to the statistics, believers in modern churches don't understand the concept of spiritual gifts because this topic isn't often addressed from the pulpit.

      This week Steve Lake is going to:

      • explore 1 Corinthians 12:1-11 and Romans 12:1-8;

      • answer important questions about spiritual gifts;

      • share the story about Eric Liddell to gain more insight on surrendered life;

      • explain the difference between spiritual gifts and natural abilities.

      The human body is an incredibly complex organism with 75 organs. Different parts of the body form one unit. Each unit has a different function and yet they are interrelated. Paul says that we are members of the Body of Christ and our purpose in the Body is determined by our spiritual gift or gift-mix.

      This week Steve Lake is going to look at 1 Corinthians 12:12-31 and :

      • stress the importance of learning biblical principles during self-study and meditation;

      • focus  on the incredible diversity within unity;

      • explain the principle of interdependence within unity;

      • talks about equality and uniqueness within unity of spiritual gifts

      • tell about the spread of Christianity in the world.

      What love has to do with spiritual gifts? What is more beneficial, prophecy or tongues? What guidelines does Paul lay out for the Corinthian church to follow about orderly worship?

      • help you unpack some important truths about cautions Paul gives about using the gifts of tongues and prophecy;

    • Equipping Gifts

      There are five gifts that we call the equipping gifts. They are given to people who function as co-captains in the church. So who are these people? Why did God choose these five gifts?

      This week Steve Lake is going to answer these questions and:

      • encourage you to follow Paul’s exhortations;

      • use the analogy of a soccer team to show that every person in the church has a role and a responsibility;

    • Discovering Your Spiritual Gifts -1

      Now when you have enough information about spiritual gifts, it is time to apply that knowledge and identify the spiritual gift you might have.

      This week Steve Lake is going to:

      • look at James 1:22-25  and ask you to do an exercise and to list different positions you have had in a church;

      • briefly review each of the twenty-one spiritual gifts so that you could match them with the ministry position you  had in the church;

      • invite you to take part in the activity when you listen to a pretend situation about the roles of  small group participants and decide whether it is something you  think you would contribute to a small group.

    • Discovering Your Spiritual Gifts - 2

      It is not enough to know your spiritual gift; you should use it everywhere you go. There is a group that God has embedded in your heart and you love to be with that group and you want to make a difference in their lives. It may be a group of people or an issue in our society.

      This week Steve Lake is going to:

      • show you a diagram which will help you understand whom you should serve;

      • help you identify your target audience;

      • present a model of how we organize  our church around spiritual gifts and especially around the equipping gifts.
