A

Analogy

A comparison between things that have similar features, often used to help explain a prinicple or idea.

Anthropological

Related to the science which deals with the origin and development of man.

Anthropomorphism

Human personality or form attributed to a god, animal, or thing.

Censorship

The suppression of speech, public communication or other information which may be considered objectionable, harmful, sensitive, politically incorrect or inconvenient as determined by governments, media outlets, authorities or other groups or institutions.

Exegesis

Careful interpretation of the Bible for the present day by drawing from each word or passage what it meant to say in the life and times when it was written, to be contrasted to eisegesis.

Fable

A short story that usually is about animals and that is intended to teach a lesson.

God of the gaps

A term used to describe observations of theological perspectives in which gaps in scientific knowledge are taken to be evidence or proof of God's existence. The term was invented by Christian theologians not to discredit theism but rather to point out the fallacy of relying on teleological arguments for God's existence. Some use the phrase to refer to a form of the argument from ignorance fallacy.

Levirate marriage

Marriage of a widow to her husband's brother to produce a child to carry on the dead husband's name and inheritance.

A communication or revelation from gods.

Pluralis majestatis

The royal "we", or majestic plural is the use of a pluralpronoun to refer to a single person holding a high office, such as a sovereign (e.g., a monarch or sultan) or religious leader (e.g., the Pope or a bishop).
