2.2. Western vs Majority World. Part I (VIDEO 9 - 28:18)
In this session you are going to learn about cultural differences and some categories which will help you to identify them. When you look at cultural differences from the western perspective you divide the world into western values and the majority world values. In this session Duane H. Elmer:
- compares the western culture and the majority world culture by using categories of communication, community, attitude to foreigners and logic;
- tells a story about an interpreter and the importance of non-verbal communication in the majority world;
- explains the idea of losing face and how to avoid causing it;
- draws pictures on the board to show the difference between the linear logic and circular or spiral logic.
