VIDEO 14. Service in the Church (3:8-13). Introduction. (15 min)

When the New Testament uses the term “deacon” it is talking of men who take care of the physical needs of those in the church. In this section of the lecture "Service in the Church" Bruce Dick explains where we get the idea of a deacon. Even though the word “deacon” isn’t used in Acts 6,  it is believed to be the seed from which Paul’s instructions come in 1 Timothy 3:8-13. Deacons are the servants who would help the widows with food, help people find proper shelter, get clothes for those who had lost theirs or had none. What would you expect these servants or helpers to be required to do or be like?
